Elmore Golf Club welcomed players to this year’s Victorian Women’s Sandgreens Championship. 117 players made up morning and afternoon fields today on the challenging par-72 layout. Elmore’s greens have previously been described as “elephant burial ground undulations” by visitors, and the black soil scrapes certainly lived up to its reputation.
Located north-east of Bendigo along the Campaspe River, Elmore also hosts one of Australia’s oldest and largest Machinery Field Days each year in the first week of October. Elmore Field Days will be celebrating 50 years next month from October 1-3.
The best gross score came from Buninyong’s Helen Pascoe, carding an 82 off the stick to be leading the A-grade section by a shot from Linda Andrea (Axedale) and Bernice Campbell (Neangar Park), both on gross 83. Campbell, a 10 marker, also posted the best nett A-Grade score of 73.
In B-Grade, Millie Cumming of Mansfield (Hcap 18) is leading the gross and nett sections with a score of 91 (nett 73), followed closely by Pauline Gardner (Boort) and Denise Hee (Parklands) on 92 and 93 respectively.
Virginia Bailey of Mansfield carded a 102 off the stick to be leading C-Grade by two shots from Heather Hay (Parklands) and Janis Tamburini (Campaspe). Hay took out the best nett score of the day as well with a nett 74 (Hcap 30).
Players will gather at the golf club tonight for the Tournament Dinner, where they will enjoy a lovely meal and entertainment.
