The 2015 Emirates Australian Open will return to The Australian Golf Club.
Golf Australia chief executive officer Stephen Pitt said the decision to return to the 2014 host had been an easy one after the huge success of November’s national championship.
“We are delighted to return to The Australian for what will be the 19th time it hosts the Emirates Australian Open,” Pitt said.
“The redesigned course was superbly prepared and well received by both players and fans.
“The overwhelming feedback we’ve had from players and sponsors is that they’ll be delighted to go back in 2015, so we’re thrilled to be able to make that happen.”
Host broadcaster Channel 7 reported an increase in ratings around Australia for the November 27-30 championship – remarkable given their surge with the dramatic 2013 finale.
The Emirates Australian Open reached almost 2.7 viewers across the four days with a peak of more than one million for the final round.
Dominant free-to-air metro market shares were recorded each day and the four day average of 25.3% made it the most-watched program in its timeslot.
Anecdotal reports from Golf Channel viewers overseas lavished praise on the course presentation, while champion Jordan Spieth’s run generated significant interest in the United States.
Spieth fired a course record last-round 63 regarded as one of the best in Australian championship history.
