Emirates Australian Open – Spieth wins + SA Players Scores

Emirates Australian Open Champion – Jordan Spieth

21-year-old Texan Jordan Spieth, wowed audiences firing a course record closing round 63 to win the Emirates Australian Open at The Australian Golf Club in NSW.

Spieth finished at 13-under with rounds of 67-72-69-63, six shots ahead of Queenslander Rod Pampling

World No.1 Rory McIlroy finished tied 15th at 2-over 69-69-76-72 and World No.3 Adam Scott finished 5th at 4-under with rounds of 74-66-69-71.

"My best round of golf… ever" Spieth said.

In brutal conditions, with the wind up and the course playing extremely difficult, Spieth put on a show, leaving his opposition for dead.

His final round 63 was the lowest since Gary Player twice shot 62 in the 1965 Open at Kooyonga. However that year, Kooyonga wasn’t prepared for the game’s elite as the championship had been moved at short notice from Royal Adelaide which was suffering from drought.

Many are saying in the hundred and ten year history of the championship no man has ever played a better round than Spieth’s 63.

SA’s leading player in the Open was Nick Cullen who finished 4-over in a tie for 28th place earning a tidy $9,500.
