t;With golfing superstars Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy already confirmed to play, the Australian Open championship today received a further boost with Emirates Airline committing to the title sponsorship of the event for a further three years.
Emirates has been connecting passionate golfers, fans and spectators alike to the Open since joining the championship as title sponsor in 2011. As the tournament continues to grow and attract the world’s best sporting talent, Emirates has committed to extending the partnership through to 2016.
“Continuing our naming rights sponsorship for another three years allows us to actively demonstrate our commitment to Australians,” said Barry Brown, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations East.
“The Open provides us with the perfect platform to connect with our customers while promoting world class Australian sport on the international stage.”
In Australia, Emirates commitment to the sport of golf extends across a number of tournaments, including the Perth International and the PGA Championships on the Gold Coast.
“We look forward to welcoming Adam Scott and defending champion Rory McIlroy, together with their world class counterparts once again to Sydney for the Emirates Australian Open in 2014”, Mr Brown concluded.
The 2014 tournament is hotly anticipated with golfing fans eager to see Australia’s Adam Scott and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy return to Sydney for a replay of 2013 where Scott came close to securing a historic triple crown of Australian events before McIlroy birdied the final hole to clinch victory.
Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt said the Emirates commitment was a terrific boost to the championship.
“Emirates has an exceptional commitment to golf around the world and the Emirates Australian Open is a leader in the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship with Emirates and bringing the world’s best golfers to Sydney for the fans to enjoy.”
