Entries open for Australian Amateur Championship

Entries are now open for the new-look Australian Men’sand Women’s Amateur Championships. The 2012 Championships will be played on Melbourne s sandbelt at Woodlands and Huntingdale Golf Clubs from 17-22 January. The new-look format sees the field size reduced slightly from previous years, as well as the qualifying rounds reduced from 72-holes to 36-holes. The leading 64 men and 32 women will qualify for elimination match play. The 2011 Champions, Matthew Stieger and Ashlee Dewhurst, will both return to defend their titles, and with players confirmed from Japan, England and Germany, the event will see a strong field. The Ross Herbert National and International Teams Trophies will be contested by various countries. Each State and International body will again nominate two males and two females, with the winner being the national and international teams with the lowest aggregate score over the qualifying rounds. Both Championships date back to 1894 and both winners receive an exemption into their respective Australian Open. Entries close at 5.00 pm AEDT on 4 January 2012. The handicap limit is 2.0 for men and 6.4 for women.
