Eric Apperly semi-finalists decided

The semi-finalists of the 2016 Eric Apperly Shield have been decided after some stunning quarter final matches over the weekend.

Pymble Golf Club took care of 2015 Shield finalists' Monash Country Club four matches to two, with big wins recorded by Corey Jones, 7&6 over Jordan Mackay, and Joseph Coles, 6&4 over Charlie Bolte. While the ACT/Monaro DGA team accounted for their country neighbour, the Far South Coast DGA, four and a half to one and a half at Cronulla Golf Club. The ACT/Monaro team had a battle on their hands all day and were behind in most of their matches through nine holes before clawing back into the contest and grabbing the win at the end.Josh Armstrong was the standout for the ACT with a handy 4&3 win over the Far South Coast's Mitchell Venables.

The quarter final battle between 2015 Eric Apperly Shield winners Concord Golf Club and The Australian GC at Cumberland Golf Club turned out to be a thriller. The sides were unable to be separated after regulation holes, finishing at three matches a piece. It was left to The Australian’s Kevin Yuan and Concord’s Mitchell Norbis to decide the result in a playoff, with Yuan getting the job done for the Kensington outfit on the second hole. Winners for the Australian were Lachlan Robinson, Blake Windred and Yuan, while in a gallant Concord team wins were recorded by James Gleeson, Nicholas Watts, and Brandan Biddle.

The Australian will now take on St Michael’s Golf Club, who drew the quarter final bye, at Oatlands GC, while the ACT/Monaro and Pymble Golf Club will meet at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club. The matches will begin from 11.40 am this Sunday.
