Eyre Peninsula hosts junior golf camp

The Eyre Peninsula District has again take a huge step forward with the development of junior players in the region, hosting another successful annual junior golf camp at Port Lincoln. In total, 28 juniors from Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Streaky Bay, Kyancutta, Kimba, Cleve, Cowell with Coaches Nick McCormack and Jan Douglas from Adelaide in conjunction with GolfSa and Community coaches Tom Kenny, Steve Carmody and Tye Redden conducted the three day event. After morning coaching the players competed in several competitions one of which was the Pump Competition, which is a National Competition and the successful golfers get to play in Sydney. The winners were Jack Thompson (Port Lincoln) off the stick and Mark Flaherty (Streaky Bay) handicap. On the Friday morning the handicap golfers played in some match play competitions, while the SAPSASA players played a qualifying round. That score will count towards their selection of the top 10 players to compete in the sapsasa event that will be played in Adelaide in September. Luke Whitehair was the best of those players. The group was put into teams of 5 and was judged on performance, behavior, attentiveness and competitions that were held over the three days. The successful team was Jim Eglinton Port lincoln (team Captain), Remee Agars (Cleve), Mark Flaherty (StreakyBay) Nick Cooper and Rubin Thompson (Port Lincoln). Eyre Peninsula Golf wishes to thank those parents ( Rob Haines, John Flaherty, Rowdy, Tye Redden, Steve Carmody, and Dave Redman) who helped with the breakfasts and teas. The junior golf camp was again held in Port Lincoln with players staying at the North Shields Lions Hostel and playing on the Port Lincoln Course. We also wish to thank all those golfers who attended and made the Camp a success again. There are several competitions coming up especially the Junior Open that will be held at Cleve on Sunday the 5th of June and is open to all juniors with or without handicaps and SAPSASA players. The best 6 players on Eyre Peninsula will be selected to play in the Brett Ogle match play competition that will be played in Mount Gambier in the July holidays.
