Fairfax was a model of consistency in his opening round, which featured nine birdies, six on the front nine and three on the back nine, and just a solitary bogey which he recorded at the 17th hole. Almost as impressive was Queensland Stroke Play Champion Cameron Smith (Royal Queensland), who sits one shot behind Fairfax following a near flawless 7-under par 65. Former Victorian State Amateur Medal winner Jin Jeong (Waverley, VIC) is a further stroke back in third place following a solid 6-under par 66. The morning field enjoyed the best of today&aposs conditions at Keperra, with frequent heavy showers and a thunderstorm putting a dampener on the afternoon&aposs course conditions. In all 45 players returned scores under par on day one. The top 70 players plus ties will make the 36-hole cut following the conclusion of tomorrow&aposs second round. Day two of the Keperra Bowl tees off from 06.30am tomorrow morning.
