Family, friends and fans farewell Lyle

Friends, family and fans of Jarrod Lyle have farewelled one of Australia’s great people at a public memorial service in Torquay.

Those closest to Lyle – and admirers from afar – gathered to pay tribute to the loveable larrikin who passed away last month.

Per Jarrod’s instruction, the dress code was casual and Challenge’s trademark yellow was splashed across the crowd, as Lyle’s incredible life was celebrated under blazing sunshine on the Surf Coast.

Lyle’s closest friends from his early days growing up in Shepparton spoke of their best mate, citing the impact he had on all those around him and his beloved Shepparton Golf Club.

Wearing a 'JL' embroidered yellow bucket hat, long-time friend and fellow PGA Tour pro Robert Allenby recounted his first meeting with Lyle – a signature at Huntingdale Golf Club many years ago – and how they bonded over the game they loved in the years that followed.

Challenge CEO Dave Rogers, Lyle’s long-time caddie Mick Middlemo and Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt also spoke of the impact Lyle had on their lives and the game of golf.

Jarrod’s wife Briony, and young daughters Lusi and Jemma, released yellow balloons and a stream of bubbles into the sky in Lyle’s honour.

A more unusual request of Jarrod’s was also carried out with smiles from all, with guests cheekily asked to close the ceremony with a rendition of his famous celebration after that hole-in-one at the Phoenix Open.

On Friday 28 September, The Sands Torquay will host the inaugural JARROD LYLE MEMORIAL GOLF DAY. To take part in the event, please contact the pro shop on (03) 5264 3307.
