Family Matters!

48 players competed in the Men’s and Women’s sections of the Family Championship today at Barwon Heads. The wind was strong and cool making the scoring harder.

The best combination in the Men came from the Balocca brothers, Anthony and Brian (Creekside) with 47 points. Their persistence paid off as this their best finish in 5 years of participation.  Andrew and Phillip Larcome (from Clifton Springs and Northern respectively) were the runners up on a count back. The Family Championship has been running since 2004 and, there are many great stories to tell. Jason McQualter, for instance, used to play with his father who has sadly passed away. Now he is lucky enough to play with Nicholas, his 13 year old son and they finished in third place on a count back too.
In the Women’s section, it was mother and daughter Lynn and Grace Daniell (Southern & Metropolitan) who took the trophy with 43 points, a great effort considering Grace’s +1 handicap. Runners up were locals and another mother/daughter combination,  Beverley Wheeler (Lonsdale)  and Deborah Fowler (Barwon Heads) with 42 points.
Special thank you to Barwon Heads GC for their ongoing support and for, once again, hosting this Championship in 2013. Golf Victoria looks forward to many families participating in this traditional event in the years to come!
