Bright blue skies and sparkling sunshine painted a picture of perfection at The National Golf Club today for the second round of the Victorian Four-Ball Championship Final. Players could not have asked for better conditions out on the Ocean Course, which was a brilliant conclusion to the State Championship.
It was all smiles for Mansfield pair Patricia Smiles (Hcp 18) and Jenny Foster (29) taking out the Women’s Section of the Four-Ball Championship with a total score of 80 points. The pair fired a round two best of 42 points to climb to the top of the leader board. A mere shot behind were runner-up Gisborne pair Robyn Tucker (Hcp 18) and Alice Tucker (Hcp 22), whose two-round total of 79 points edged out round one leaders Myra Fisher (Hcp 23, Box Hill) and Robin Ashby (Hcp 20, Box Hill) on a count-back.
In the Men’s field, round one leaders Michael Meneghini (Hcp 7, Woodlands) and Michael O’Donnell (Hcp, 24, Commercial Albury) were able to capitalize on their strong start of 48 points yesterday, coming in with a solid 40 points this afternoon to convincingly take the title by 4 points. It was a fight for second place, between morning pair Myles Tehan (Hcp 17) and Sam Rosewarne (Hcp 14), both from Peninsula, and Woodlands pair Marcus Toovey (Hcp 11) and Nick Barrett (Hcp 15). Both pairs scored 84 points, but it was Tehan and Rosewarne with a round two best score 45 points winning the count-back.
A big thank you to Rosebud Country Club, The National Golf Club, and all the 20 other Victorian clubs for their continued support in hosting the Championship Final and Regional Qualifying Rounds. Thanks are also extended to all the volunteers, who should be commended on their fantastic effort assisting in all aspects throughout the course of the Championship. Most importantly, thank you to everyone that participated in the event this year and congratulations to all the winners.
