The favourites have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Australian Women’s Senior Amateur at Maroochy River Golf Club.

In near perfect conditions, number one qualifier and current Canadian Women’s Senior Amateur champion Sue Wooster (Vic) beat Shirley Van Der Brugghen (WA) 8&7.

New Zealand’s Robyn Boniface defeated 2000 Australian Women’s Senior Champion Gia Stolz (Qld) 3&2, while Maggie Hayes (NSW) defeated seven time champion Sylvia Donohoe (NSW) 3&1.

Number 2 qualifier and current New Zealand Women’s Senior Match Play champion Kim Burke (NSW) started slowly but finished with five birdies in 13 holes to clinch victory over local favourite and two time champion Josie Ryan (Qld) 6&5.

Reigning champion Jacqui Morgan (NSW) beat Robyn Maree Pullar (NZ) 6&4, while last year’s runner up Helen Pascoe (Vic) defeated fellow Victorian Jo Sellen 3&1.

Pauline Jeffery (ACT) and Robyn Puckett (USA) will also continue to the quarter-finals.

The quarter-finals and semi-finals will be played tomorrow, with sixteen players from four age flights also continuing matches in the morning.
