Felton & Choi win NSW Amateur

Men&aposs NSW Amateur Final: Jarryd Felton (WA) def James Bannan (VIC) 3/1 Western Australian golfer Jarryd Felton has won the 2014 NSW Amateur Championship. This gives WA the double after Curtis Luck&aposs victory in the NSW Strokeplay Medal. Felton took the lead after 18-holes 1up, however Bannan continued to fight over the next 18. The match went down to the wire, Felton securing the victory on the 17th hole, winning 3/1.

Women&aposs NSW Amateur Final: Doey Choi (NSW) def Ali Orchard (QLD) 5/4 Concord Golf Club member Doey Choi (NSW) has won the 2014 Women&aposs NSW Amateur Championship. Choi stamped her dominance early on, leading 3up through 18. In a remarkable victory, the 13-year-old closed out the match against her more experienced opponent Ali Orchard (QLD) 5/4. The win follows on from a great few weeks of golf for Choi, who also performed well in the 2014 Women&aposs NSW Open.

Women&aposs NSWGLU Salver: Nicole Bessant (Highlands) def Vienna Schoeffel (Bonville) 7/6 Bessant was dominant from the outset of the 2014 Women&aposs NSWLGU Salver, playing her best round of the tournament. She shot two under around the first nine, only allowing Schoeffel to win one hole on the 10th. Bessant was thrilled with the win, stating “it was the best I&aposve played all week, so it was great timing”. Schoeffel was gracious in defeat, remarking that &aposshe (Bessant) just played brilliantly today”. Congratulations to both players.

Quarter and Semi Finals were played today in the Men’sand Women’s NSW Amateur Championships, and the Women’s NSWLGU Salver. MEN NSW Medal Champion Curtis Luck (WA) had a tough outing against England s Harry Casey (UK) winning the match 1up on the 18th. Jarryd Felton (WA) had a good hit out against Brayden Peterson (NSW), Felton getting up 2/1. James Bannan (VIC) knocked out Jarrod Freeman (NSW) 4/2 . In the battle of the New South Welshman, it was Dale Brandt-Richard (NSW) who was victorious against Tim Hyland (NSW) 2/1. Queenslander Jaimee Dougan (QLD) defeated Chizuru Uedo 4/3 . The girls from Western Australia had a tussle, Hannah Green (WA) winning her match over Hayley Bettencourt (WA) 4/3. In the last quarter final Ali Orchard (QLD) accounted for youngster Celina Yuan (NSW) 1up. Number one seed Vienna Schoeffel (Bonville) had a strong win over Judy Dean (Pennant Hills) 8/6. Susan Fenwick (Ryde-Parramatta) and Prescilla Keogh (NSW) had a good tussle, Fenwick eventually winning 4/2. Nicole Bessant (Highlands) accounted for Lousea Johnston (Coonabarabran) 3/1, and in the final match Vicki Stride (NSW) won against Alison Gatland (Monash) at the 19th hole. MEN Rounds of 32 and 16 were played today in the Men’sNSW Amateur Championship. In the early rounds the top few seeds had no problems, Curtis Luck (WA) and Ben Eccles (VIC) easily accounting for their opponents. There were however a few upsets, with 25 seed Zac Mullins (NSW) defeating 8 seed Lukas Michel (VIC), 29 seed Cameron Haines (ACT) winning against 4 seed Kevin Yuan (NSW), 26 seed James Bannan (VIC) took out the 7 seed Ryan Evans (UK), 23 seed Grant Booth (NSW) was victorious over 10 seed Charles Wright (VIC) and 30 seed Ricky Kato (NSW) winning his match against Cameron Davis (NSW) 1up. The afternoon matches saw some great battles. It went down to the wire in the Curtis Luck (WA) and Jack Bush (UK) match, Luck eventually winning 1up. Harry Casey (UK) defeated Zac Mullins (NSW) 2/1. Brayden Peterson (NSW) had a strong win over Cameron Haines (ACT) 4/2. Jarryd Felton (WA) accounted for Harrison Endycott (NSW) 3/1. Last year s NSW Amateur Champion Ben Eccles (VIC) was defeated by Jarrod Freeman (NSW) 1up. James Bannan (VIC) continued his good form, winning his match against Grant Booth (NSW) 4/2. A solid win to Dale Brandt-Richards (NSW), winning his match against Ricky Kato (NSW) 4/3). The final match of the day went down to the 18th,Tim Hyland (NSW) won his match against Daniel Gale (NSW) 1up. Chizuru Euda (NSW) had a good win over Bianca Ling (VIC) 3/1. Twelfth seed Jaimee Dougan (QLD) upset 5th seed Tatiana Wijaya (WA) 3/2. Second seed Hayley Bettencourt (WA) easily accounted for Emma Betland (NSW) 5/4. Hannah Green (WA) defeated Jo Charlton (VIC) 3/2. Celina Yuan (NSW) was victorious over Hayley McNeill (NSW) 3/2. Ali Orchard (QLD) won the final match of the day against Konomi Matsumoto (VIC) 1up. Thirty-two men and 16 women will battle it out on course tomorrow in the 2014 Men&aposs and Women&aposs NSW Amateur Championship match play. Players qualified through the 72-hole stroke rounds, played at Castle Hill and Pennant Hills during the week. RESULTS – Men&aposs NSW Medal RESULTS – Women&aposs NSW 72-hole Stroke Play Championship Western Australia&aposs Curtis Luck goes into the men&aposs draw as the number one seed, while Queensland&aposs Anna Stanton is ranked highest in the women&aposs draw. In conjunction with the Men&aposs and Women&aposs Amateur&aposs, the Women&aposs NSWLGU Salver match play will also be played at Concord. The NSWLGU Salver is contested by players who had the next best eight scores from the 72-hole Stroke Play Championship, with handicaps 6-14.
