Fernando and Walker win with signature style

Shanaiah Fernando showed why she is fast becoming one of Victoria’s best junior golfers firing a 3 under par 69 at Gardiners Run today to take out the Stuart Appleby Signature Tournament. Fernando was followed closely with a 2 under par 70 from Riversdale’s Alice Fan. Fan won the under 16 Girls Gross section as well as the overall runner up.

In the Boys event Heidelberg’s Toby Walker won by two strokes from Cranbourne’s Jack Rasmussen with a 1 under par 71.

Both Walker and Fernando have enjoyed some great form over the past 12 months both were selected in the School Sport Victoria 17 and Under Team to compete in the National Championships in August played in Canberra. They continue to put themselves in a strong position to represent Victoria at the Junior Interstate Series in Tasmania next year.

Imogen Jones from Royal Melbourne won the overall nett event with a 62 playing off 14. Jones beat her own personal best score by 11 shots and with a gross score of 4 over par 76 also took out the under 14 girls gross. It’s not often that you have a nett 64 and get beaten however unfortunately for Cranbourne’s Ashleigh Hall that did happen however I think she would still be happy with scoring her own personal best. Another mention should go out to Madeline Jukes from Mildura who had nett 67 to win the under 14 girls nett.

Tony Chen from Riversdale won the boys under 14 with a nett 77 while Charles Kueh from Kew took out the under 14 boys nett with a 68. Christian Chierego from Riversdale won the under 16 boys gross with a 75 gross and Kew’s Mikel Eduard won the under 16 boys nett with a nett 69.
