Field set for senior amateur

final field is set for the Australian Men’s Senior Amateur Championship at Mandurah Country Club in Western Australia, from 30 September to 2 October.

Three-time winner Stefan Albinski (NSW) will be vying for another title, along with two time champion Denis Dale (NSW), however they are sure to face some tough competition from locals Ian McPherson (WA) and Graham Bowen (WA) who will be looking for a title in their home state.

A number of other top ranked senior players will also be contenders with recently selected Asia-Pacific Senior Team members Roy Vandersluis (NSW), Vince Clark (NSW) and Gordon Claney (Vic) also competing.

The event is in its 34th year, having been played since 1981, and with the winner claiming the Kerry Packer Trophy, it is Australia’s premier men’s senior event. It is played over 54-holes stroke play, concluding with a presentation reception on the Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile  Golf Australia has announced the Australian team to contest the 2014 Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship to be played at Discovery Bay Golf Club in Hong Kong.

The six-man team to contest the event in 2014 is Stefan Albinski (NSW), Gordon Claney (Vic), Vince Clark (NSW), Denis Dale (NSW), Paul Maslen (NSW) and Roy Vandersluis (NSW)

Stefan Albinski is Australia’s number one ranked senior golfer and three time Australian Senior Amateur Champion. Albinski has two Australian Senior Amateur Ranking event wins this year at the WA Senior Amateur and Tasmanian Senior Amateur.

Paul Maslen sits in second place on the Australian Senior Amateur Rankings and has had a solid year winning the NSW Senior Classic and finishing in the top ten in a number of Australian Senior Amateur Ranking Events.

Denis Dale is in third place on the Australian Senior Amateur rankings and continues to be a consistent performer in events along with the fourth-ranked player Roy Vandersluis.

The team sees also sees some fresh faces in 2014 with newcomer Gordon Claney taking a place in the team. Claney has been in form this year with five top-five finishes in Australian Senior Amateur ranking events including runner up in the recent SA Senior Amateur to see him move up the rankings.

Vince Clark rounds up the team of six players with wins in the ACT Senior and three top-five finishes in Australian Senior amateur ranking events over the past 12 months

The Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship is played over 54-holes stroke play, and comprises an individual event with the team event in conjunction. In each round, the total of the four lowest scores constitutes the team score for the round. The three-day (54-hole) total is the team’s score for the championship.
