Fifth Win for Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson has notched up another victory in 2013, this time at the 54 hole Coomealla Senior Amateur.
A solid field 63 men and 15 women assembled in chase of the 2013 title. The extreme winds on Monday coupled with difficult pin positions made good scoring a near impossible task. Although the winds eased for the final two rounds the par 72 layout remained quite the challenge.
The 2009 Doug Bachli winner fired rounds of 81, 77, 75 to edge out Hill Top’s John Keller by a narrow two stokes. Ray Walker and Steve Rawlings were a further three stokes adrift on a three round total of 238.
Jackson secured the trophy after holing out from the front bunker on the 18th hole of his final round.
This is Jackson’s fifth senior title this year and places him in a commanding position to claim his second order of merit trophy.
Ignatius Duivenvoorden was too good for the locals in nett section following rounds of 69, 73, 69 of a handicap of 17. Just two shots separated Duivenvoorden to the second placed Paul Fink who totalled 213 for the tournament.
The Northern Senior Amateur will be played later this month followed by Hidden Valley in mid-October.
