Fine scores continue at Portsea Mazda Fourball

A full capacity field of 100 players took to the spectacular Portsea GC this morning for one of the final remaining country qualifying rounds of the 2016 Mazda Victorian fourball championship. Despite favorable benign conditions, the rolling links style layout provided a stern test for today’s field which was made up of 30 men’s, 10 women’s & 10 mixed pairs.

Today’s mixed category was hotly contested, with the highest overall score of the day recorded. In second place was the husband & wife duo of Debbie Biggs (Ivanhoe) & Douglas Biggs (Riversdale) with a score of 44 points. Taking home the top prize was the Settlers Run pair of James & Jackie Glazier who returned a blistering 50 stableford points!

The women’s component of today’s event was taken out by the Victoria pair of Fiona Cochrane & Kate Large with 40 points. Runners-up were Jill Gillingham (Medway) & Geraldine Livingstone (Riversdale) 39 points.

The men’s event was extremely tight at the top, with a four way tie on 46 points the best scores of the day. Emerging from the log jam to take out today’s men’s event was Rob McCombe & Gary McCall (RACV Cape Schanck) with a superb back nine of 26 points enough to secure first place. In the runners-up position was local Portsea member John Hassan & Richard Eriksson (MFB) with Lakeside pair Don Read & Chris Philpott in third place

The next qualifying round will be held at Lang Lang GC Sunday 28 February (event has reached full capacity) followed by the final two qualifying rounds of the 2016 calendar at Mildura & Shepparton GC’s on Sunday 6 March.
