Five birdies for Kelly sees him leading at Bendigo

John Kelly has fired five birdies this afternoon to give him a two-shot lead at the halfway mark of the 2019 Bendigo Senior Amateur.  

The Metropolitan GC member stormed home with a superb back-nine of 34 for an even-par 72 total.

Joining Kelly in the final group will be Ken O’Brien (Rossdale), Mick Kaufman (Melton Valley) and Robert Wallace (Midlands) who finished with scores of 74, 76 and 76 respectively.

Kelly also finds himself atop the leaderboard in the net competition, currently leading by one over Ken O’Brien, Jos Duivenvoorden (Neangar Park), Peter James (Woodlands) and Robert Sutton (Neangar Park).

In the women’s event, Bendigo GC member Elizabeth Raftery put her local knowledge to good use, finishing with 22 scratch stableford points to lead Julie Daniel (Numurkah) by one.

The women’s stableford event sees Jennifer Needs (Bendigo) and Alison Barrett (Axedale) tied on 35 points with Raftery hot on their heels on 33.

Players will return to the course for round two tomorrow morning with play to commence via a multi-tee start at 8:30am.
