Five Under Fernando

90 Junior Golfers enjoyed perfect scoring conditions out at Kooringal Golf club this morning. The sun was shining and all the bright colors of the junior golfers attire made for a vibrant atmosphere. The players took full advantage of the calm conditions in Melbourne’s West.

Max Green from Commonwealth Golf Club would have won this event with his 68 in any of the last 10 years. Unfortunately for him he was beaten in a countback by Blair Christie from Rich River, both boys had 4 under the par.

Meanwhile Shanaiah Fernando blasted her way to a 5 under par score of 69 with two bogeys, five birdies and an eagle.This excellent scoring from the young Yarra Yarra member proves that she can match it with the best junior girls in the country on her day.  

Shanaiah was awarded the Winn Lloyd Trophy named in honour of the Kooringal life member and school teacher who had a passion for developing junior girl golfers.

Blair Christie was awarded the Kevin Hartley Trophy named after Kevin “The Dart” Hartley who has one of the most impressive amateur golfing records you will ever see.

Kevin Hartley: represented Australia at 4 Eisenhower Cups (The pinnacle of amateur golf representation), won the Ivo Whitton Trophy a record 13 times, Won the 1958 Australian Amateur and was good enough to play golf with the like of Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.

Alessandra Nagayo from Churchill Waverley Golf Club won the B Division Nett on a countback with 68, while Sophie Miles from Victoria Golf Club won the C Division with a massive 41 stableford points.
