Aussie young gun Nick Flanagan has gone from a tie for third place at the end of the first round to narrowly avoiding the cut after a disastrous second round at the Las Vegas Open. Flanagan shot a two-over par 74 – the equal fourth worst round of the day – as he plummeted down the leaderboard. His round wasn&apost looking that bad until he shot a triple bogey on the par three 17th, and perhaps still shaken could only manage a bogey on the final hole to leave him at six-under overall, which is where the cut fell. It wasn&apost all grim news for the Aussies though, with Mark Hensby shooting a delightful seven-under par to move up to a tie for 21st. But he is still eight shots behind joint leaders Matt Kuchar and Marc Turnesa who are making the TPC Summerlin course look ridiculously easy to be already sitting at 18-under for the tournament. The American duo holds a one stroke lead over Zach Johnson with John Mallinger a further stroke back. Peter Lonard shot a solid three-under par to be a nine-under while Matthew Goggin and Jason Day both moved up the leaderboard with five-under par rounds. Rod Pampling and Brett Rumford are very unlucky to not be playing the weekend after both players were left stranded at five-under par, one shot behind the cut. Nathan Green and Steve Elkington also missed the cut, while David Lutterus withdrew after his three-over par first round.
