Abraham Ancer has stormed to #AusOpenGolf victory at in the 103rd staging of the Championship.
The Mexican held a five shot lead heading into the final day, set up by a stellar third round 65, and never looked like fading.
Ancer, 27, golfer navigated The Lakes in rounds of 69, 69, 65 and 69 (16-under par) to claim a comfortable five shot victory over New South Welshman Dimi Papadatos at 11-under.
The first Mexican to hold the Stonehaven Cup, Ancer will have his name etched alongside some of the game’s greats in Peter Thomson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Greg Norman.
Ancer, Papadatos and Queenslander Jake McLeod, who finished in outright third at 10-under, have secured tickets to The Open as part of The Open qualification series.
Japan's Keita Nakajima and Victorian David Micheluzzi claimed the low amateur honours, tied at 8-under the card.
Aussies can continue to follow Ancer’s form as he heads to the ISPS Handa Melbourne World Cup of Golf next week where he will represent Mexico alongside teammate Roberto Diaz.
