Flynn seals first international victory

Queenslander Lawry Flynn put the finishing touches on a magnificent comeback to seal his first international win at the Malaysian Amateur, last week.

Flynn, 21, led the championship early with a two under 70 opening round, but soon forgave his advantage after a turbulent three over 75 on the second day of the 72-hole event at Kelab Golf Sarawak.

The QAS athlete fired back with eight birdies in round three to put him right back in the mix and take the final round lead with Singapore’s Low Wee Jin at six under.

A superb three-under-par 69 in the heat of the final round proved enough for the talented lefty, claiming his first international win with a one shot buffer over Jin.

"I was pretty damn stoked," said Flynn.

"In the final round the emotions were quite loud, obviously.

"You've got the opportunity to win an event, so I just had to do what I had to do to win.

"That meant following my game plan and hit the wide shots under pressure."

"The guy that came second, me and him were in front at the start of the day and then we played quite well on that last round.

Just weeks prior, Flynn finished as leading Aussie at the Taiwan Amateur in a share of fourth.

"I was only a couple of shots behind the leader," the World No.448 said of his result in Taiwan.

"I've been playing quite well recently and felt as though I was going to play a similar kind of game of golf as I did in Taiwan then I'd come close to winning the event in Malaysia."

Flynn’s nine under total was eleven shots ahead of Alice Spring’s product Jake Hughes and Mount Lawley’s Jordan Jung in a share for 8th.
