2009 SRIXON AUSTRALIAN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALS Australia s highest ranked world amateur Scott Arnold (NSW) will take on Daniel Beckmann (VIC) in the Match Play final of the Srixon Australian Amateur Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club on Wednesday. Beckmann started Tuesday against National Squad team mate Jason Scrivener (WA) and won 3&2 to set up a meeting with New Zealand long bomber Ryan Fox in the afternoon semi finals. I played really well again today, Beckmann said. It was a close match against Ryan- I birdied the last three holes which was good- I hit it well on 18 and on 17 I gifted my iron shot to just under a foot from the pin. The Victorian made special mention of his opponent who was hitting the ball superbly. He was absolutely smoking it, Beckmann said. On the par-5 510 metre 16th, his drive must have gone every bit of 370 metres and he was hitting 9 iron in for his second shot. Beckmann said the final would simply be a case of repeating the patterns that got him there. I certainly won t change anything- I ve got my game plan and I ll just do what I need to do to get the job done, he said. Arnold, who has been in consistent form all week, progressed from his section of the draw with wins over Kieran Pratt (VIC) and New Zealander Blake McGrory. I finished third at the Stroke Play and didn t feel I was playing my best golf, Arnold said. Things have gone better for me as the week has gone on and hopefully that continues in the final. Arnold said he was looking forward to the match against fellow National Squad member Beckmann. I ll give it my best and you can t do any more than that, Arnold said. Justine Lee (NSW) is through to her first Srixon Australian Amateur Championship final after wins over Queensland s Sheree Hasson in the quarter finals and Malaysia s Amanda Chin in the semis. Lee will face Chinese Taipei s Pei-Ying Tsai in the final and said her focus during the week was simply on reaching the final. All I wanted to do was try and get into the final, Lee said. Earlier in the week, Stroke Play champion Julia Boland commented on the difficulty on the greens. I completely agree with Julia, Lee said. The greens here are really difficult to read. It’s hard to stop the ball-it doesn’t matter if you re trying to get an iron shot to bite or a putt to slow down, it s really hard to stop. Lee, who was undefeated in Match Play in the recent Trans-Tasman Cup in Canberra, said she would focus on staying calm throughout the final. I just have to get out there and try to do my best, Lee who was also the Leading Amateur at this year s Women’s Australian Open, said. Tsai defeated Queenslander Bree Arthur in the morning quarter final and Julia Boland in a tense afternoon semi final. Wednesday s finals are 36 holes of Match Play.
