Fowlers back-to-back in Europe

Australia’s Peter Fowler has soared to his second consecutive tournament victoryon the European Senior Tour.

Fowler closed with a 70 to win the ISPA Handa PGA Seniors Championship in England at the weekend, following on from his win in the Acorn Jersey Open.

Starting the day with a four-shot lead, Fowler had to work. A double bogey at the par-four ninth hole saw his lead threatened, but eventually he pulled clear of the field with three late birdies to win by three.

It was the fifth European Senior Tour win for the 56-year-old, whose career includes an Australian Open title.

“There’s a lot of years of hard work, almost 15 years, to get to this stage, so it’s been worth it,’’ Fowler said. “I’m playing really good golf and whether you win or not it’s a bonus, but playing good golf is what I strive to do. My putting in particular has been the best it has been for a long, long time, so I’m chuffed with that. You can’t win tournaments without your putting.”

Fowler’s wins see him qualified for the United States Seniors Open.

Meanwhile on the United States PGA Tour, Matt Jones was the best of the Australians in the Fedex St Jude Classic in Memphis, finishing tied-third.
