Frost heats up at Sorrento

Ian Frost (Bendigo) produced a second round one under par 69 to win the 2014 Sorrento Senior Amateur. After a disappointing 79 yesterday, Frost flipped the coin to record 6 birdies on his way to his 69 and a 148 total.

“I had 3 birdie putts within 5 feet and made a lucky 15-foot slider on the 1st”said Frost.

Frost managed to beat consistent Rosanna member Don Hendry on a countback after Don produced two rounds of 74. In the nett, Elroy Lim (The Heritage) outclassed the field with two nett rounds of 70 & 69 off his 17 handicap.

“I hit the driver well. I don’t hit it long, but I didn’t miss many fairways” mentioned Lim post round.

Gordon Warren from Devilbend took the runner up honours with a great second round of 66 off his 15 handicap. With a 74 nett yesterday Gordon came up one short of Lim.

A remarkable story came out of the today’s second round with 78 year old Clif Mitchell (Kingston Heath) carding a fine 76 to break his age by two shots. A feat that doesn’t happen regularly.

The Sorrento course was in flawless condition, with the greens rolling near perfectly. Competitors spoke highly of this fantastic layout on the Mornington Peninsula and also appreciated the splendid hospitality provided by the club. Player’s will have a break over Christmas before the second 2015 Doug Bachli gets underway at Keysborough for the Keysborough Senior Amateur on Monday 12 January 2015.
