Frost & Pascoe Emerge as Champions

Round 2 – Frost and Pascoe Emerge as Champions

Players were reprieved from yesterday’s damp weather to be presented with crisp, foggy morning that eventually lifted to reveal a mostly fine day. A recorded breaking 89 players again took to the course in chase for the 2014 Shepparton Senior Amateur titles.

After taking a handy overnight lead by four strokes, Ian Frost was able to continue his fine form with a three over 75 to have his name permanently etched on the trophy. Todays round complimented his score of 74 yesterday to tally a tournament total of 149. Unlike his up and down opening round, Frost found a much more consistent approach this morning with only minor blemishes on the card.
Meanwhile Helen Pascoe extended her considerable 13 shot lead to emerge victorious in the women’s division. Pascoe fired rounds of 81 and 85 for a tournament total of 166. Her closest challenger was Tocumwal’s Bobette Wilkinson 192.
Pascoe is by no means a stranger to the limelight with countless tournaments to her name across the state. After a win at Heathocte and todays victory, the 2 marker will be looking for the hat-trick at Tocumwal in two days’ time.
Kerry Boehm from the Rossdale Golf Club took home the men’s handicap section after the 9 marker returned rounds of 75 and 70 to ward off his nearest competitor, John Ciezki (Buninyong), by two strokes. Fellow Rossdale compatriot Brian Gray fired the low nett round of the day with 69, while Barry Tippett (Thirteenth Beach) signed for the low round of the tournament with a level par 72 today.
In the women’s nett section, Glenda Kelly was named the winner following rounds of 82 and 85 from her 16 handicap.
The Tocumwal Senior Amateur starts this Thursday with another strong field expected to tee off at the 36-hole complex.

Round 1 –  Frost and Pascoe Take Overnight Lead

The first round of the Shepparton Senior Amateur kicked off this afternoon in less than ideal conditions as light showers rolled across the Goulburn Valley for the majority of the day. The 18-hole Sam Berriman Championship design was presented to players in brilliant condition and proved to be quite the test of skill with its deep bunkering and undulating tree-lined fairways.

Ian Frost is leading the charge in chase for the 2014 title after the Bendigo member carded a two over par 74 today. Frost had an up and down round with six birdies but his card marred with a number of bogeys and double bogeys.
Frost first stamped his authority on the senior section last year at Yarra Yarra when he shot a stunning round of 74 in near impossible winds for his maiden breakthrough.
A cluster of players are placed four shots behind the overnight frontrunner including Gordon Claney, Tony Hyde, Ken O’Brien, and Ross Percy.
Having just claimed the Senior Heathcote title yesterday, Buninyong member Helen Pascoe finds herself poised comfortably at top of the leader board after a round of 81 against a par of 73. Bobette Wilkinson (Tocumwal) is Pascoe’s nearest challenger 13 shots back.
Playing from a handicap of 25, Robin Parkinson will head into tomorrow’s final round with a one stroke lead in the men’s nett section after carding 72 this afternoon. Meanwhile, Helen Pascoe also heads the women’s nett component on 79. However, Glenda Kelly will be applying the pressure tomorrow after returning 82 from her 16 handicap.
The Shepparton Senior Amateur concludes tomorrow morning when play commences at 9:30am.
