Fuller wins SA Country Men�s Championship

2012 Country Champion – Zak Fuller Barossa Valley s Zak Fuller has won the 2012 Country Championship, defeating Philip Chapman from Mt Barker/Hahndorf 1up in the Match Play final at Kooyonga Golf Club on Fri 28 September. In a tightly fought contest, Fuller came back from 2 down through 14 holes playing some consistent golf to square the contest going into the final hole. A par on the 18th was enough for Fuller to claim the contest and win his first Country Championship. His opponent and Medallist Chapman, was aiming for his 6 Country crown after winning 5 titles over 7 years from 1989 – 95. Earlier in the day Fuller had reached the final with a 4&2 over Willunga s Brad Steele, while Chapman had reached the final courtesy of a final hole victory over Clare s John Nairn. Kooyonga also played host to the Fourball stableford competition on the final day of Country Week, with the Clare pairing of Wick Jenkins and Brian Green victorious carding a solid 44 points. Runners up in the Fourball were Loxton David Unferdorben and Steve Coombs on 40 points. Earlier in the week Unferdorben also claimed the Individual Stableford event played at Glenelg Golf Club with 33 points ahead of Philip Johns from Port Pirie with 32 points. On Wednesday at Adelaide Shores, Barossa Valley duo, Tyron Turnbull and Zak Fuller (gross 73) claimed the Country Championship by 2 strokes ahead of Ramon Thorne and Tim Atze. The following players were named in the State Country side to play Victoria in Millicent on 27 and 28 October.
