The future of Australian golf will descend on Goolwa this week for the School Sport Australia 17 Years and Under Golf Championships.
Student athletes from the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia will tee off on Monday, August 15 in what is one of the most exciting school competitions in the country.
SSA Golf National Secretary Nick Mooney said many athletes who are now competing on the world stage have played in School Sport Australia Golf Championships, highlighting SSA’s programs as national and international pathways for young aspiring athletes.
“School Sport Australia events are a true breeding ground for future stars,” he said.
“Golf continues to grow within our school sport system and this week is a chance for our student athletes to showcase their skills and talents.
“A national championship is certainly the pinnacle of our school sport program and I am sure that athletes and spectators alike are looking forward to a fantastic week.”
School Sport Australia’s golf alumni include the likes of Jason Day, Karrie Webb, Su Oh, Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy, Steve Elkington, Mark Hensby, Marc Leishman, Jason Day, Karrie Webb, Corrine Dibnah, Katherine Hull, Nadine Taylor and Nikki Campbell.
School Sport Australia would like to thank the Secondary School Sport SA unit for hosting the championships in South Australia as well as the host clubs including South Lakes, Victor Harbor and McCracken Golf Clubs.
