Gaffney Wins NSW Mid Amateur

Shelly Beach&aposs Matt Gaffney has won the 2013 NSW Mid-Amateur Championship at Nelson Bay Golf Club today. Gaffney shot an even par round of 72 today to win by a stroke to Woolgoolga&aposs Logan Toms, with Eastlake&apos member Gabriel Baciu in third place. Gaffney&aposs tactic of not using a wood on the tight Nelson Bay layout proved a master stroke. FINAL RESULTS

ROUND THREE DRAW There are still several players in contention to take out this year&aposs Men’sNSW Mid-Amateur Championship. Kogarah s Peter Cooper is taking a three stroke lead into the final round after rounds of 72 and 74. Cooper is three shots ahead of Shelley Beach s Matt Gaffney and Pymble s Guy Wall, and a further stroke ahead of last year s winner Andrew Tharle and John Mihaljevic. Six players sit just one further shot behind.

The first round of play is complete in the Men&aposs NSW Mid Amateur Championship. Gabriel Baciu, Peter Cooper and Guy Wall lead the field after shooting even par rounds of 72. There are 14 players within three strokes, so there are still a large number in contention. 116 competitors tee&aposd off this morning at Nelson Bay Golf Club, playing a composite course, utilising 18 of the available 27 holes.

The 2013 Men’sand Women’s NSW Mid-Amateur Championships are being held at Nelson Bay Golf Club on Sunday 5, Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 May 2013. This will be the first year the men’s and women’s events have been held together. The men’s event had traditionally been a stand-alone event, while the women’s was played in conjunction with the Women’s NSW 72-hole Stroke Play Championship. The Men’sNSW Mid Amateur Championship is stroke play over three rounds of 18-holes. The draw for the first two days of play is random, with a seeded draw for the final round. The Women’s NSW Mid Amateur Championship is stroke play over two rounds of 18-holes (play will be on Sunday 5 and Monday 6 May). The draw for the first day is random, with a seeded draw for the final round. There are a number of prizes awarded for the Championships, including scratch and nett winners.
