The annual David Hirsch Memorial Day took place at the Cronulla Golf Club on Monday. Despite the heavy rain two weeks ago the course was in fantastic condition and there was beautiful weather to match.
David Hirsch was the driving force of junior golf in the Sutherland Shire area for a longtime. He was the coordinator at the Woolooware Golf Club, a JNJG rules official, convener of the Encourage Shield and all round supporter of junior golf. David volunteered countless hours to the juniors at the Woolooware and Cronulla Golf Clubs.
David’s sudden passing in 2011 was a shock to the junior golfing community and this memorial day was established as a significant way to recognize his contributions to this great game and also to continue his legacy in junior golf.
It is the second year this event has been held and attracted 60 participants from not only Cronulla and Woolooware but also Bardwell Valley,Kareela, North Ryde, Russell Vale, Carnarvan, Shelley Beach, Pennant Hills, Hurstville, Bankstown, St Michaels and Cammeray.
There were three divisions; Boys 0-13 Handicap, Boys 13+ Handicap and a Girls division. The overall winner for the day was Mitchell Gannon (Bonnie Doon) on a count back from local junior Sean Liddy (Cronulla). Both players finished with fantastic scores of 39 points.
