Gardiner claims fifth

Australian Scott Gardiner has fired a final round of 70 to finish in a tie for fifth place behind winner Chez Reavie at the Knoxville Open. Gardiner made four birdies during his round but his putter let him down on numerous occasions as he also made two bogeys which ruined his winning chances. Reavie carded a final round of 68 to finish the tournament at 17-under and win by three strokes from Kyle McCarthy, while Michael Letzig was a shot further behind in third place. South African Deane Pappas finished at 12-under to claim outright fourth after a final round of 67, one ahead of Gardiner, Jon Mills and Tommy Biershenk. New Zealander Tim Wilkinson finished the tournament in style, shooting a final round of 66 to be tied for ninth at nine-under. Australian Matthew Jones finished in equal 29th place at six-under, one clear of compatriot Aron Price who fired a final round of 72. Fellow Australian Kim Felton and Adam Crawford finished in a tie for 44th place at three-under.
