Victorian Chris Gaunt has continued his stellar run of form to capture the Sunrice Leeton Pro-Am over the weekend. Gaunt s back to back rounds of six-under-par 66 were good enough to hold off a strong finish from Brad McIntosh who closed with a sensational nine-under 63 to finish one stroke back at 11 under. It was a landmark event for the historic Riverina golf club which celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the golf club. Golf NSW CEO Stuart Fraser was in attendance and presented the club with a commemorative plaque to celebrate the occasion. Overnight leader and tour rookie Callan O Reilly from Sydney was unable to continue his form on Sunday, stumbling with a final round three-over-par 75. O&aposReilly carded his second round of 65 in a row following a closing six-under-par 65 at Wagga on Thursday. The talented Q-School graduate will have to wait a little while longer for his first professional victory. “I struggled with my game out there on Sunday” said O&aposReilly. “It was a great experience to have the lead and feel that pressure with so many great players trying to chase me down. “I just need to keep the work rate up and I know I will get there soon” he added. Despite a bogey on his final hole, Gaunt proved he will be tough to beat in the unique Pro-Am format in 2014. Gaunt recently captured theI.C Frith & Associates Castle Hill Pro-Am in Sydney, and was a close runner-up to Ed Stedman at the Lennock Motors Murrumbidgee Pro-Am. With this win in Leeton, Gaunt holds a dominating lead in the NSW/ACT Order of Merit. I have enjoyed the last few weeks here in NSW said Gaunt. We play some great courses and many suit my game which is lucky for me. The fields have been really strong and it gives me a great boost of confidence heading into the rest of the year he added. Gaunt will divide his time between the Australian circuit and the Asian Tour where he holds status in 2014. The NSW/ACT Circuit will visit the new venue of South West Rocks later this month which joins a week long circuit on the mid-north coast. Wauchope Country Club, Port Macquarie Golf Club and Kew Golf Club host events which are set to once again deliver yet another elite field on the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series.
