Giles breaks his age in Bright

It was a race to the finish line today at Bright for the second and final round of the 2014 Alpine Senior Masters. Thunderstorms were forecasted for the afternoon, but players were lucky to enjoy another calm morning ideal for low scoring.

Champion of the day was Goonawarra’s Patrick Giles, shooting a 2 under par 70 off the stick to take home the 2014 Alpine Senior Masters title. Bright is becoming a personal favourite for Giles, who won the title in 2012 through an epic 7-hole sudden death play-off. Today, Giles broke his age of 71 with a round that consisted of 5 birdies and 3 bogeys to finish with a two round total of 145 (75, 70). Ray Walker (Chirnside Park) showed his steady form, finishing 3 shots back from Giles on 148.

Neil Collier (Royal Melbourne) shot a solid nett 68 today to win the handicap title on a count-back from Yarram’s Ignatius Duivenvoorden. Both players tied on 141 total, with Collier’s nett 68 today beating Duivenvoorden’s nett 74.
