The final round of the Emirates Australian Open is officially under way at The Australian under cloudy skies.

Local boy Matt Jones, who grew up playing at The Australian before taking his game to America and becoming one of this country’s finest professionals, has a three-shot lead going into the final round.

The 39-year-old Jones is looking to join the likes of Aaron Baddeley, Jordan Spieth, Robert Allenby and Greg Chalmers among his contemporaries to have won two Stonehaven Cups.

He won the Open here at The Australian in 2015, to this date the high point of his career.

Jones tees off with American Cameron Tringale and Japan’s Takumi Kanaya in the final group at 12.01pm today.

Among those out on the course this morning are the 2017 champion, New South Welshman Cameron Davis, while Queensland’s Cameron Smith is due to tee off soon for his final round.

The top three finishers who have not already qualified for the 2020 Open Championship at St Andrews will be granted places in the field for that event today.
