‘Go time’ for Kemp at Evian

Sarah Kemp produced a career-changing fortnight in Barwon Heads and Adelaide in February and if ever she was going to catch fire for another couple of weeks, the time is now.

The Sydneysider has been riding high in 2019 on the back of a runner-up finish at the ISPS Handa Vic Open and a T10 finish at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open the following week that instantly altered her mindset and schedule.

Starts opened up for Kemp on the LPGA Tour, including spots in all three of the year’s majors so far.

While she hasn’t been able to make the most of those opportunities, the 33-year-old has a massive three weeks ahead with starts in Evian, at the AIG Women’s British Open and the Ladies Scottish Open the following week.

“This is a nice surprise,” Kemp said on Wednesday.

“I planned in November, December last year that I wasn’t going to go to LPGA Q-School, I was going to tone it down a bit and just play the LET.

“Another crazy thing is I’m going to play every major this year, so that was very unexpected.

“The Evian and the British, life’s pretty good when you get to play those two, so it’s pretty cool.”

Currently sitting 18th on the Ladies European Tour money list, Kemp’s best two finishes outside of Australia came in the form of back-to-back top 10s in Morocco and Dubai in late April.

Meanwhile, her form in the Australian summer has her in 86th on the LPGA’s money list.

The top 80 at season’s end lock up a full tour card for 2020 and with the next three events being co-sanctioned by the LPGA and LET, it could be another career-defining period coming up for Kemp.

“I went home a couple of weeks ago and got to see my coach John Serhan at St Michael’s and got a little bit of a tune-up,” Kemp said.

“So a couple good finishes for the rest of the year would be really nice.”

Kemp tees off in Thursday’s third last group at 2:17pm local time (10:17pm AEST) alongside Korea’s Mi Hyang Lee and Swede Madelene Sagstrom.
