Goggin Augusta bound

2008 Australian Open runner-up Mathew Goggin has secured his invitation to Augusta National for the 2009 Masters. The Tasmanian, who finished runner-up at Royal Sydney Golf Club in December and at the Australian PGA Championship the week before, makes his first trip to the famed establishment. In the second half of 2008, Goggin rose steadily through the rankings to ease inside the top 50 and earn his place in the illustrious field. This time last year, Goggin was ranked 198th in the world. He had two top 3 finishes on the PGA Tour to finish 2008 before his double runner-up performance in Australia. Goggin has had four top 20 finishes in his opening 8 events on Tour including a sixth place finish at the Buick Invitationl and fourth place at the Transitions Championship. He has jumped 149 rankings places in the last 12 months. His rise in the rankings also gave him a berth at the Accenture World Match Play Championship where he lost in the second round to eventual runner-up Paul Casey. Of the other Majors, Goggin has played in the 2007 US Open where finished 37th and last year&aposs PGA Championship where he missed the cut.
