The Golf SA District – ‘Schools & Club visits program’ has continued into the Murraylands District with Golf SA (in conjunction with the District) arranging visit schedules to various regional primary schools and clubs across the district.

Golf SA funds the program contracting a team of coaches to deliver MyGolf sessions at schools during the day and then at the local golf club each afternoon/evening for further sessions for the new and improving golfer.

PGA Professional Dylan Thomas, has just completed a week-long trip to the Murraylands, visiting eight schools and four clubs in the District, with Golf SA introducing over 249 students to golf at schools across the five-day program.

Swan Reach Area School, 176km north east of Adelaide, was the first stop of the trip on Monday 28 May, with 23 students learning the fundamentals of the game. Then 42 students over two classes from Mannum Community School learnt grip aim, stance and swing.

Golf SA then met with Mannum Golf Club in the afternoon to conduct a session and discuss game development opportunities available to the club.

On day two Golf SA headed to St Joseph’s at Murray Bridge and conducted sessions for two classes with 51 students having a great time working on their skills.

Next was Murray Bridge South Primary School, where 55 students had fun participating in an interactive MyGolf session, then in the evening, an up and coming Murray Bridge junior, received a one on one session with Coach Thomas.

An early morning visit to Tailem Bend Primary School was scheduled for Wednesday, with 22 students having a blast. Then 20 students from Meningie Area School had a heap of fun learning golf.

Day three concluded, with a Come n Try session for nine players at Lake Albert Golf Club.

Thursday started with a school session for 24 students from Pinnaroo Primary School, then a stop at Lameroo Community School where 12 students were taught the fundamentals of the game.

The final club session was held at Lameroo Golf Club in the afternoon, with ten participants attending.

“The impact of us coming into town and teaching the game face to face is huge in terms of fast tracking the rate of improvement and boosting enthusiasm to play golf.” Dylan Thomas said

“I’m also confident that we should see an improved number of junior golfers participating at each of the local Murraylands Golf Clubs in the next few months and also have a great turnout at Murray Bridge GC for the Murraylands SAPSASA Event in early August.” Thomas added.

Each club visited, was left with a range of game development opportunities it can pursue to continue to drive participation and development of golf in their region.

The SA Primary School Golf Event, Murraylands Regional Qualifying day, will be held on Thursday 9 August at Murray Bridge Golf Club. Eligible Studentsare those that are in years 5, 6 & 7 of school in 2018 (in the Murraylands zone) with competent golfing skills. Students who are 10 years of age in year 4 and show competent golfing skills are welcome to play. A golf handicap is not required.
