Golf SA Development visits to Yorke Peninsula

The Golf SA District – ‘Schools & Club visits program’ has continued throughout the Yorke Peninsula with Golf SA (in conjunction with Districts) arranging visit schedules to various regional primary schools and clubs across the district.

Golf SA funds the program contracting a team of coaches to deliver MyGolf sessions at schools during the day and then at the local golf club each afternoon/evening for further sessions for new and improving golfers.

Following on from a two-club visit to both Maitland and Kadina Golf Club in April, PGA Professional Dylan Thomas, has just completed a week-long trip to the Yorke Peninsula visiting nine schools and six clubs in the District.

All in all Golf SA introduced over 230 students to golf at schools across the five-day program.

On the first day of the trip, Monday 14th May, Golf SA visited the Harvest Christian School in Kadina, situated 150km from Adelaide and conducted two, one hour sessions, seeing a total of 42 students. 

Next stop was Kadina Memorial School, where Golf SA conducted another two MyGolf sessions, a clinic for 22 students and then 24 students from years 5-7.

On Tuesday, Golf SA held two sessions for 36 students at St Mary MacKillop School in Wallaroo, followed by a session for seven new and improving players at Moonta Golf Club.

On Wednesday, Golf SA visited three schools, the first was the Maitland Lutheran School holding a session for 25 students, followed by a visit to Central YP School, where 22 students were next to learn grip, aim, stance and swing.

Ardrossan Area School was next on the visit schedule, with two MyGolf sessions conducted for 41 students from years 5-7.

Day three concluded, with a Come n Try session for seven players at Ardrossan Golf Club in the afternoon/evening.

Thursday started with a club session for nine participants held at Minlaton Golf Club, followed by back-to-back sessions at Warooka Primary School, where 36 students were taught the fundamentals of the game.

The day concluded with a visit to Warooka Golf Club, where 14 enthusiastic players participated in a club session.

On fifth and final day of school visits Golf SA conducted a triple session at Yorketown Area School, with 62 students having a great time working on their skills.

Stansbury Primary School 200km from Adelaide, was the final school session for the trip, with nine students having a heap of fun learning golf.

The final club session was held at Stansbury Golf Club in the afternoon, with five participants attending.

Each club visited, were left with a range of game development opportunities they can pursue to continue to drive participation and development of golf in their region.

The SA Primary School Golf Event, Yorke Peninsula Regional Qualifying day, will be held on Friday 6 July at Maitland Golf Club. Eligible Students are those that are in years 5, 6 & 7 in 2018 (in the YP zone) with competent golfing skills. Students who are 10 years of age in year 4 and show competent golfing skills are welcome to play. A golf handicap is not required.
