After round two of the Simpson Cup, Men's A Grade Pennant played at The Grange Golf Club on Sunday 21 May, Glenelg and Kooyonga sit at the top of the table as the only undefeated teams, while Thaxted Park and Tea Tree Gully are yet to record wins.
In the match of the round, Kooyonga proved too strong for the home side, winning 4-3.
Tim Baker won 3&2 against Mark Demasi to secure the first point for Kooyonga and then the next four matches went the distance.
Kyle Hayter won 1up for Kooyonga against Alex Hendrick, before Colin Coleman hit back 1up against Sam Inglis. Matches three and four between Daniel Spiers and Jack Thompson and Will Somerfield and Liam Georgiadis were then both halved, keeping the match alive.
Claiming the number two match for Kooyonga was Joe Hodgson over Andrew Nakone Jnr 2&1 securing the vital fourth match. Grange Captain Matthew Lisk defeated Heath Riches 5&3 but it was all too late with Kooyonga taking the victory 4-3.
It was a tight tussle between The Vines and Tea Tree Gully with the final match deciding the contest.
The Vines won the first three matches and halved the fourth to move into a commanding position, before Nick May and Jake Hurst both had wins for TTG. Leading 3.5-2.5 number one Alex Curtin played solid golf to defeat Matt McMahon 2/1 and secure victory for The Vines 4.5-2.5.
In another tight affair, Southern defeated Thaxted Park 4-3. Winners for Southern were Simon Connelly 6&5, Dave Patejohns 7&5, Jared Thoman 6&5 and Chris Burns 1up. Southern now move to fourth on the ladder.
It was one-way traffic in the Glenelg versus Blackwood match with the ladder leaders proving too strong 6-1.
Munn, Olsen, Layton, Hayes, Kalz and Earl all had solid wins moving Glenelg to the top of the ladder.
Next week’s round three matches are held at Glenelg with the home side taking on The Grange. Grange will need a win with a loss making a top two finish difficult. In other matches Kooyonga play Blackwood, Southern take on Tea Tree Gully and Thaxted Park come up against The Vines.
