Golf SA Pennant Simpson Cup – Round 2 Summary

Glenelg and The Grange sit at the top of the Simpson Cup table, as the only undefeated teams after two rounds of Simpson Cup.

After halving last week, home side Royal Adelaide were eager to secure an early season win, however Tea Tree Gully proved too strong, winning 5-2. Winners for TTG were Jimmy Luo 2&1, Jarrod Rowe 3&2, Jacin Cook 2up, Sudeera Botejue 1up and Matthew McMahon 1up

It was a tight tussle between Glenelg and Thaxted Park with three of the matches halved. Ben Layton 3&2 and Frank Vucic 2&1 both had crucial wins and Jackson Kalz’s 1up win over Jarrad Roxby, sealed the win for Glenelg 4.5-2.5.

Kooyonga, tested early, proved too strong for Southern, winning 4.5-2.5. The top four for Kooyonga all had wins led by number one Joe Hodgson 3&2 against Chris Burns. Kyle Hayter 3&1, Heath Riches 6&4 and Nick Deutrom 1up, all followed suit, to elevate Kooyonga to fourth on the ladder.

In the final contest of round two, The Grange defeated The Vines 6-1 and in doing so secured top spot. Impressive wins to Nick Thompson 6&4 over Marc Fulton and Colin Coleman 8&7 over Michael Bruggeman, who won six matches last year to make team of the year.

Next week’s round three matches are at The Vines, with the home side taking on Southern. The match of the round is between Glenelg and The Grange with the winner moving to outright top of the table. Kooyonga plays Tea Tree Gully in what should be a close affair and Royal Adelaide take on Thaxted Park who have been impressive so far this season.
