Kooyonga and Tea Tree Gully sit at the top of the Simpson Cup table as the only undefeated teams after two rounds, with all other clubs, bar Royal Adelaide and Highercombe now having recorded one win.
Starting off the 1st tee, in one of the early matches at Tea Tree Gully, the home side continued its winning form by defeating Royal Adelaide 4.5 – 2.5.
The contest was tight early with the seventh match halved between Zak Amundson and Sam Medlin.
After Tea Tree Gully players Jacin Cook and Zane Thomson won their matches at number five and four respectively and then Royal Adelaide won matches six and three, with victories to William Arnold and Matt Lawson the contest was again squared at 2.5 each.
Tea Tree Gullies top order proved too solid however, with Sam Burton accounting for Patric Kroschel 3&2 and former two time SA Amateur Champion Chris Austin defeating Billy Cawthorne 4&3 to secure his sides second victory of the season.
In the other early match, The Vines defeated Highercombe 5-2 after The Vines held a 4 – 0 lead with wins to Luke Noble, Mark Potter, Matthew Bell and Brendan Fisher.
Nick May and Mark Deacon secured Highercombe first individual points of the season winning at number two and three respectively, but The Vines Sam Earl at number one proved too strong for Dung Nguyen winning 5&4 to secure the win for The Vines.
The Blackwood versus Glenelg clash was a tight affair with Glenelg in the box seat early leading 2.5 – 0.5
Glenelg wins were to Anthony Olsen 2&1 over Ben Winton, Henry Duregon 1up against Gavin Britten and Luke Bashford halved with Steve Berridge.
For Blackwood, Daniel Wake secured their first win 1up against Ben Magi and Andrew Humphries won 3&2 over David Hiern. With match three between Will Starkey and Michael Munn halved it was down to the final match between Glenelg’s Ben Hallam and Blackwood stalwart Nick Wake to decide the result.
Wake who defeated Chris Austin in Round one backed up again to win 2&1 and secure vital points for Blackwood.
In the contest of the round, the grand final rematch, Kooyonga defeated The Grange 4.5-2.5.
It was a sweet victory for Kooyonga who wrapped up the victory early with wins to Jason Cocks, Joe Hodgson, Daniel Speirs and Zak Fuller while Sam Gava squared his match at number five with Jack Thompson.
After trailing 4.5-0.5, Grange top two Justin Crowder and Jack Williams won their matches to avoid a blowout.
Next week’s round three matches are held at Highercombe Golf Club with the host side doing battle against Blackwood. In other matches, The Vines come up against Tea Tree Gully, The Grange and Glenelg will be looking to respond with wins and Kooyonga play Royal Adelaide.
