Golf SA Pennant Simpson Cup – Round 3 summary

Glenelg is the only undefeated side after three rounds of the Simpson Cup after a 7-0 whitewash over The Grange.

Other winners in round three were; Tea Tree Gully and Thaxted Park, while The Vines and Southern played out a draw.

It was Southern’s third halved contest in its past four (including last year’s final minor round match) proving Southern are a hard team to beat.

Southern number five Steven Williams halved his match with Corey Apthorpe to remain undefeated so far this season.

Brodie Whitbread 5&4, Brad Altmann 1up and Chris Burns 6&5 were all winners for Southern, while Matthew Bell 2&1, Michael Bruggeman 4&3 and Alex Curtin 5&4, all brought their A game for The Vines.

Glenelg didn’t hold back against The Grange winning 7-0 and replacing them at the top of the ladder.

Frank Vucic has now started the season with three wins in a row with his defeat of Brad Stenner 5&4. Jack Tanner 3&2 and Jack Buchanan 5&4 also remain undefeated, both with two wins and a half.

Other winners for Glenelg were Michael Munn 1up, Harry Burner 5&3, Anthony Olsen 1up, and Josh Hayes who accounted for Chris Brown 8&7.

Tea Tree Gully has had back-to-back wins, claiming the big scalp of Kooyonga 4.5-2.5. TTG youngster Jimmy Luo defeated Darcy Salamon 1up to secure his sides first point of the day, but victory was secured with the top three players all winning. Zak Amundson 4&2 and Sudeera Botejue 1up, both proved too strong, while Matt McMahon’s 4&3 win over Joe Hodgson, at number one, was his third win in a row.

Thaxted Park retains its third placing after defeating Royal Adelaide 4.5-2.5. Kieran Barratt 4&2, Shaun Tate 3&2, James Coulson 3&2 and Matthew Hey 1up were victorious.

After a bye for the Queen’s Birthday, play will resume at Glenelg on Sun 17 June with the home side taking on Kooyonga, in a rematch of last year’s grand final. Bottom two sides, Royal Adelaide and The Vines square off, with the winner potentially jumping into fifth. Thaxted Park come up against Southern, which should be an enthralling contest, while Tea Tree Gully play The Grange.
