After round three played at Highercombe Golf Club, Tea Tree Gully maintains its place at the top of the Simpson Cup table after defeating The Vines and along with Kooyonga who won over Royal Adelaide remain as the only undefeated teams after three rounds.
The Grange with a win against Glenelg holds third position as the only team with two wins for the year and by defeating Blackwood, Highercombe recorded their first win of the season, maintaining their undefeated record at home since joining the Simpson Cup in 2012.
Starting off the 1st tee, it was a sense of déjà vu, with Highercombe for the second year running, defeating Blackwood at home 5.5 – 1.5.
Blackwood picked up a win early with Daniel Wake defeating Kane Parry 3&1 and Andrew Couzner halving with Gavin Britten, but Highercombe won all five top order matches, lead by top two Nick May and Mark Deacon backing up their wins from last week to defeated Nick Wake and Andrew Humphries both 3&2.
Tea Tree Gully, continued its winning run by defeating The Vines of Reynella 6 – 1. Despite the scoreline there were some close contests with halved matches between Ryan White and Matthew Bell at number five and Chris Austin and Sam Earl at number one.
One of the reaons for Tea Tree Gully's great start to the seson has been their solid middle order with Matthew MacMahon and Jacin Cook both winning their opening three matches.
McMahon has defeated Daniel Wake, Nathan Baulderstone and now Tony Nobbs 4&2 while Cook has defeated Steve Berridge, Alex Pacifico and The Vines Brendan Fisher 4&3.
The Grange proved too strong for a gallant Glenelg and despite the 6-1 score line three matches went the distance.
Anthony Olsen has had a great start to the year for Glenelg and after two wins remains undefeated after halving his match with Jack Thompson. Glenelg’s Lachlan Barker back from the US also halved his match with Ben Stowe.
Grange Captain Justin Crowder with his third win, defeated Will Starkey 1up while Jack Williams also notched up his third win for the season accounting for Ben Hallam 2&1.
Mark Demasi, Andre Na and Alex Hendrick also secured wins for The Grange.
Similar to The Grange versus Glenelg match, Kooyonga defeated Royal Adelaide 5-2 but four matches were decided on the 18th.
Tight matches were at number two between Patric Kroschel and Tim Baker and number three between Matt Lawson and Zak Fuller, with both ending in halves.
Kooyonga gained further points with Jason Cocks winning 1up over Louis Fuller at number seven and Daniel Speirs 1up against Nathan Baulderstone at number four.
Both Speirs and Cocks have won their opening three matches.
In other matches Heath Riches was too strong for Sam Medlin winning 6&5 while at number one Will Somerfield won 2&1 against Billy Cawthorne.
Royal’s sole win for the day was by William Arnold against Joe Hodgson 2&1.
Matches recommence on Sunday 14th June at The Grange following a bye for the Queen’s Birthday.
