Golf SA Pennant Simpson Cup – Round 7 summary

Defending champions Glenelg will play The Grange in the final of the Golf SA’s Men’s A1 Pennant Competition the Simpson Cup, on Sunday 15th July at The Grange Golf Club.

Heading into Sunday’s final round, Glenelg had already booked its place in the final and a 5.5-1.5 win over Southern District completed an unbeaten season with seven wins. Glenelg is now unbeaten in its past 23 matches.

The Grange who were sitting second and only three individual matches ahead of Thaxted Park, virtually had to win to cement their place in the final and a 4-3 victory over Royal Adelaide did the job. Royal Adelaide finished their season in fifth place.

Thaxted Park who finished third had their chances, but just couldn’t get across the line against Kooyonga. Kooyonga won the contest and finished the season in fourth place.

The Vines had a stellar 4.5-2.5 win against Tea Tree Gully to notch up their second win of the season to lift themselves from the bottom of the table to finish sixth.

Both Tea Tree Gully and Southern District finished the season on two contests and locked away with 19.5 matches each.

When Total Contests and Total Matches are tied, holes are then used to determine a team’s position on the ladder.Based on this Southern finished seventh with -41 holes for and Tea Tree Gully finished in eight place with -46 holes for.

Next week's Simpson Cup final hosted by The Grange, sees the minor Premier Glenelg looking for its 12th title and three flags in a row. 2014 Champions The Grange are gunning for their 23rd title.

When the sides met in round three, Glenelg triumphed 7-0, but the make-up of The Grange side should be markedly different. It should be an epic final.
