2011 Brett Ogle Division 1 winners Golf South East: (L-R) Ben Snell, Ben Tucker, Will Somerfield, Sam Barras, Tom Miller, Jason Holloway South East and Northern districts have emerged victorious at the 2011 Brett Ogle Cup held at Mt Gambier Golf Club. With all eight Golf SA state districts converging on the Mt Gambier course on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July, South East were dominant in taking the Division 1 title with Northern holding off a strong challenge from Mid North to win Division 2. With each District being represented by a team of six Junior Golfers, Monday morning&aposs stroke round we used to allocate team positions and playing divisions for the match play section of the event. Despite appalling weather condition several players returned excellent scores including Will Somerfield who carded a 1-under par 70, Josh Hayes (Southern) with a 3-over par 75 and Peter Johns (Murraylands) with a 7-over par 79. Top divisional qualifiers were South East in Division 1 and Northern in division 2. In the match play section, South East and Southern fought it out in the last round of matches for the Division 1 title, with the locals proving too strong in winning all five matches and 13 of 15 individual games. In Division 2 it was close and after two rounds with Northern leading on matches won but Mid North had won the same amount of individual games. Mid North finished strongly in beating Yorke Peninsula to tie the number of games won although this wasn&apost enough to stop Northern from winning the title after they had defeated Riverland in the final round to record three match wins. Players were universal in their praise for Mt Gambier Golf Club who put on a fantastic event and presented the course in great condition.
