Golf Tasmania December 2014 Newsletter

What a year of mixed fortunes 2014 has been for Golf Tasmania. From the unfortunate situation of having to construct a strategic plan and aligning constitutional reform, with only four board members to seeking new board members and having more than we could appoint and finishing the year with a Board I am excited to be working with in 2015. Congratulations to Peter Bond and Don Cameron! While I did not know Len Rae, his passing will be felt deeply by many of the older members of our golfing community who did know him and were aware of the many roles he filled in the golfing political sphere, not only in Tasmania but on the mainland, and on their behalf I pass on our condolences to Len’s family. Our strategic plan is complete and over the Xmas break and early into the New Year, Craig French and I will be working on changes to the constitution to be put to the members at the Special General Meeting on March 29. While it would be nice to be able to implement all recommendations, we don’t have the people power or finances to do this so must look into the future and prioritize accordingly. Obviously club viability is our biggest issue and all steps we take must have increased participation as our main goal. To this end it has been positive to see Golf Australia’s innovations such as the Club Support Portal, Playgolf WEEK and the new MYGolf program being promoted across the state. While in the North there are many registered clubs and programs unfortunately in the South there are very few clubs taking up the MYGolf program. I look forward to seeing many members on March 29, I wish all members of our golfing community a happy and safe Xmas and a prosperous new year. Tony Bush CHAIR
