Golf’s Legends and Heroes to compete in World first

In a world first, the Handa Australian Senior Open Championship for men and the Legends Tour Open Championship for women will be played together at the prestigious Concord Golf Club in Sydney from November 2-4, 2007. The calibre of talent at this event is inspiring, with players such as Wayne Grady, Rodger Davis, Terry Gale, Bob Shearer, Michael Clayton, Jan Stephenson, Amy Alcott and Pat Bradley competing for an outstanding prize purse of $700,000. It&aposs an opportunity for Australians to get up close and personal with the greats of the game as they battle it out for their respective Australian and international titles. 1982 Australia Open champion, Bob Shearer, said he was keen to take on golf’s elite once more. “I&aposm looking forward to playing against some of the game&aposs greats in this event,” said Bob Shearer. “It would be nice to win the Senior Open Championship in Sydney, the same city in which I won the Australian Open.” Golf&aposs original glamour girl and winner of the 1973 and 1977 Australian Opens, Jan Stephenson, said she was delighted to tackle the greats again on home soil. “It has been 30 years since I won my last Australian Open,” said Jan Stephenson. “To win the Legends Tour Open Championship in my home town would top off my career.” Tony Hallam, CEO, Golf Australia was glad that months of planning by Wayne Smith and the team at Vault Sports Management for this unique concept had come to fruition. “Golf Australia sees golf as a game for life and we love that this event promotes men and women&aposs golf especially to baby boomers.
