Goosen remains in control

South African Retief Goosen has retained the lead at the BMW International Open in Munich by adding a 68 to his opening 64 and at 12 under par is now one stroke ahead of Dane Soren Kjeldsen. Goosen went 33 holes without a bogey, but after dropping a stroke at the 441-yard seventh he closed with his 13th birdie of the week. Englishman Nick Dougherty grabbed two eagles in a 65 which lifted him from 23rd to joint third with Scot David Drysdale on 10-under. Scott Strange is the best of the Australian contingent in a share of 19th spot at six-under while compatriot Richard Green sits a stroke further back in equal 27th position. Meanwhile, at the Travelers Championship Kenny Perry could not repeat his first-round 61 but he did maintain his lead at TPC River Highlands as second-round play was suspended for the day due to thunderstorms in Connecticut. Play was halted at 4.35pm local time as thunder and lightning approached the Cromwell course and it was finally called off for the day at 6.02pm leaving 72 players to complete their rounds on Saturday morning (US time). There were no such worries for Perry, 48, who had held a two-shot first-round lead over fellow Americans Paul Goydos and Charles Warren following a nine-under-par opening round in Cromwell that equalled the course record on the rain-softened 6841-yard layout. As more rain descended on the US north east, early-starter Perry got off to another quick opening with birdies at the first and third before a bogey slowed the Ryder Cup star. Another birdie came at the 17th, his eighth of the day, but Perry parred the remaining 10 holes for a 68. Perry will take a two-shot lead over fellow American Ryan Moore into the third round. Moore continued from his tie for 10th at last Monday&aposs US Open with an opening 66 and added a 65 on Friday to get to nine under for the tournament at the halfway stage. A pack of six, including Anthony Kim and Goydos, trails Moore in equal third spot at eight-under. Aussies Mathew Goggin and Jarrod Lyle are six under par in a share of 15th position and trail Perry by five strokes.
