Gordon Claney wins at Cobram Barooga

The final round of the Cobram Barooga Senior Open , part of a series of events for the Doug Bachli trophy, was played under ideal sunny conditions.

The round of the day was played by defending champion Ray Walker (Chirnside Park) with a par 72 on the Old course.

Gordon Claney (Kingston Heath) returned a 77 for a total of 225, for a comfortable win.

The leading ladies stroke player Nola Crothers (Phillip sland) returned a score of 82 to extend her winning margin.

Robert London (Rosanna) returned a nett 73, off handicap of 4, to win the handicap section by 1 shot from Stan Davis (Bendigo) and Geoff Hall (Cobram Barooga).

The men’s stableford division was won by local member Karle Bishop with a total of 105 points, 1 point clear of Jim Bowyer(Cobram Barooga) and John Blackburn (Walwa)

The ladies stableford was won by Maggie Robinson (Berwick Montuna) with 98 points off handicap of 24.

The "John McAllister" team torphy was won by Walwa (an 18 hole, using alternate tees, sand scrape course in the upper Murray district). Team members being John Blackburn, Bob Mountford, Phil Gadd.

Players were impressed with the condition of both the Old and West courses together with the recent renovations to the club house and motel complex.

The 2015 tournament will start with a welcome dinner on Sunday 3’rd May, play following on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. (the week leading into Mother’s day)
