There are a range of grants and funding opportunities from government and other sources to support you in developing personnel, programs and your facility.

Below is a list of grants available at any given time for clubs and facilitie to apply for. Certain grants are open at different times of year so please be sure to check the opening and closing dates carefully.

Sporting Club Grants Program

This program provides grants to assist in the purchase of sports uniforms and equipment and to improve the capacity and accessibility of Victorian clubs and other community sport and recreation organisations and increase the skills of their coaches, officials and managers.

The program has three funding categories:
 
  • •  Category 1: Uniforms or Equipment
  •     Grants up to $1000 to purchase uniforms or other equipment essential for participation.
  •  
  • •  Category 2: Skill Development
  •     Grants up to $2000 to improve the skills of club members by providing training for coaches, officials, administration staff and management committees.
  •  
  • •  Category 3: Club Operational Capacity
  •     Grants up to $5000 to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of clubs through strategic planning or, to increase community participation through accessible sport and active recreation opportunities.

Sport Australia Community Sport Infrastructure

Supporting small to medium scale projects up to $500,000 to improve local community sport infrastructure which will support greater community participation in sport and physical activity and/or offer safer and more inclusive community sporting hubs.

Community sport infrastructure generates more than $16.2 billion worth of social, health and economic benefits each year, according to a landmark report.

Sport Australia, the Australian Government’s lead agency for sport and physical activity, has released The Value of Community Sport Infrastructure, a report produced in conjunction with KPMG and La Trobe University.

Successful grants will support projects such as:

  • •  Upgrades to playing surfaces, including multi-sport upgrades and resurfacing that supports increased use;
  • •  Building, expanding and/or upgrading change rooms, particularly for girls and women and officials’ areas;
  • •  External entry/exit accessible amenities;
  • •  Improved sports lighting and safety lighting, including installation of solar panels;
  • •  Improvements to ground and court capacity that support increased use;
  • •  Improvements to spectator amenities; and
  • •  Internal/external amenity uplift.

VicHealth Active Club Grants program

As part of VicHealth’s long-term plan to get more Victorians living healthier and happier lives, Active Club Grants provide funding of up to $3,000 or up to $10,000 to community sport clubs.

These grants will increase the amount of participation opportunities across Victoria, under two outcome areas:

  • •  Focus area 1: Female participation 
  • •  Focus area 2: Participation in social and modified forms of sport

Victorian State Government Community Sports Infrastructure Loans Scheme

The State Government is providing organisations access to low interest rate loans between $500,000 and $10 million to deliver community sport and recreation infrastructure.

The innovative $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Loans Scheme was announced as part of the 2018-19 Victorian Budget as part of a broader approach to increase infrastructure investment.

The scheme is in addition to the Labor Government’s record investment in community sports infrastructure – $241.6 million in the 2018-19 Victorian Budget and over $400 million since 2014.

The scheme will support the delivery of community sport and recreation infrastructure by providing organisations access to low-interest government-guaranteed loans between $500,000 and $10 million.

Emergency: Sporting and Recreational Equipment Grants

These grants provide assistance to grassroots sport and active recreation clubs and organisations to replace essential sporting or first aid equipment that has been lost or destroyed as a consequence of fire, flood, significant storm event, theft or criminal damage.

These grants are open all year round and can be applied for up to 3 months after loss or damage has occurred.

Defibrillators for Sporting Clubs and Facilities Program

The Defibrillators for Sporting Clubs and Facilities Program provides Victorian sporting clubs with the opportunity to acquire an automatic external defibrillator (also known as an ‘AED’) for their club or sports facility.

Successful applicants receive an ‘Automatic External Defibrillator Package’. The package includes a high quality defibrillator, some basic training and a minimum of three years of essential maintenance. This package will be provided by a qualified contractor engaged by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Please note that by applying for an Automatic External Defibrillator Package your club (or club facility management) is agreeing to:

  • •  Register the defibrillator with Ambulance Victoria
  • •  Implement a medical emergency plan that is consistent with the current Sports Medicine Australia guidelines.

Athlete Pathway Travel Grants Program

The Athlete Pathway Travel Grants Program provides grants to improve Victorian athlete development pathways from community to national representation level.

The program has two funding categories:

Category 1: State Sporting Associations

State sporting associations recognised by Sport and Recreation Victoria (or if no state sporting association, the relevant Australian Sports Commission recognised national sporting organisation) can apply for up to five grants per funding round on behalf of Victorian teams or individuals for travel to compete at national championships and/or an event or series of events constituting national selection trials.

  • •  Grants of up to $6000 are available for teams with a maximum of $1000 per team member.
  • •  Grants for individuals are available up to a maximum of $2000.

Category 2: Community Organisations

Victorian community organisations delivering sport and active recreation opportunities can apply for up to two grants per funding round of $750 each to assist athletes, coaches, officials and teams with the travel costs of training and competition. A maximum of two grants will be approved to any organisation in any calendar year.
